There has been some discussion among parents about whether or not we should have a Father-Daughter Dance or a Father-Daughter Fun Night. Which would you prefer. Please add your thoughts below. If you are reading this on Facebook, please respond in the comments section on FB. You can also send your thoughts privately to a PTO Exec. Board member.

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair starts on Monday Nov. 28 and runs all week. This is a great opportunity to get books and gifts for kids and adults at excellent prices. The proceeds from the fair help to purchase new materials for the library.
There are a lot of great titles to choose from. With the updated AR software recently purchased by the PTO, almost all the books sold are AR books.
We are still in need of a few more volunteers to work at the fair. If you are available, please contact Angel Morgan.
Great Gift Idea
Here is a great gift idea. It’s delicious, always appreciated, and your purchase benefits EC. You don’t even have to leave your house to buy it. Just type in that you are supporting East Central Elementary at check-out. You can even purchase EC’s own Wolf Den Blend.
PTO Has Changed AR For The Better
I’m betting all of our kids have been there. They read a really cool book. They sit down to take the AR test only to discover that EC doesn’t own the quiz. The student doesn’t get credit for the reading they did and may not “officially” make the reading goal designated by their teacher.
Thanks to a recent purchase by the PTO, this frustrating experience is likely a thing of the past. We have recently purchased the Accelerated Reader Enterprise Software. This software gives EC students access to over 130,000 quizzes. As new books come out, new quizzes will be added. If you want to check if a book is an AR book, simply log on to AR bookfinder @ http://www.arbookfind.com/
Reading just got so much easier!

Registration will be held at the school at the following dates and times:
July 20 9:30-11:30
July 21 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-3:30
July 25 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-3:30
July 28 9:30-11:30 and 12:30-3:30
If you live in the district you will need to bring in proof of residency like a July 2011 utility bill or lease that shows your address. If you live outside the district you will also need documentation that shows you live at the address the school has on file (July 2011 utility bill, lease, etc).
If you are new to EC you will need to fill out a registration form, afternoon transportation sheet, and a health information form. Please also bring immunization records.
Returning parents, you will also need to fill out the registration form, afternoon transportation sheet and the health information form. These were sent home with your student’s last report card. If you have misplaced these, don’t worry we have more at the school.
Meet Your Teacher
Find out who your awesome new teacher will be on Friday July 29 from 4-5:30. When you arrive at school someone will be there to direct you to the appropriate grade. Class lists will be posted outside the teacher’s door. In addition to meeting your teacher, this is a good time to drop off your school supplies.
